An exhibition of new, previously unseen work by Los Angeles-based fine-art photographer Elizabeth Waterman will debut at Larry Flynt’s Hustler Club Las Vegas on August 31 at an anniversary celebration marking the venue’s 14th year in operation. Waterman’s show will remain on view for a month, and features her images of nightclub entertainers, many of which were shot on location at the Hustler Club.
The exhibition builds on Waterman’s MONEYGAME portfolio, itself the result of the five years she spent in nightclubs in five U.S. cities photographing strippers. Her first coffee table book MONEYGAME, published in 2021, is now a sold-out collector’s item. The Los Angeles Times’ write-up of the book lead with the headline “How a fine-art photographer recast the lives of exotic dancers through a female gaze.” The images to be featured in the Las Vegas exhibition are a sneak preview for MONEYGAME II, which is scheduled for 2025. As Waterman delves deeper in the world of strippers, exotic dancers, the work veers away from mostly straightforward portraiture, and presents a more cinematic point of view, capturing the “mise-en-scène of nightclub establishments.
