Liu Tao is from Jiangxi Province in China. Only child of a family kept apart for excessive independence of spirit, he found refuge first in graffiti, then in photography. His series A Weak Road revealed him to the public in 2012, he exhibited at the age of 27 in Beijing then in Paris and won numerous prizes. Since then, he has produced more than fifteen solo exhibitions, including the Hungry Beijing I and II and Great Wall series. He finds his main inspiration in auteur cinema, from Fassbinder to Ozu. Today, he lives between Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, immersed in the fierce turmoil of contemporary China, still driven by his mad pursuit of freedom.
Liu Tao joins La Belle Étoile* in 2022 for a photo exhibition at EST Galerie, his first in France for five years. Opening on March 17.
