Their names are Vanessa van Zuylen and Elisabeth Nora. They love photography. Twenty years ago, they started a magazine: l’Insensé. Here are their two latest issues.
So many dreams stay just that: dreams. It seemed insane at the time, but we were insane—insensé— enough to make them come true. Our combined energy and passion for “the printed word” propelled us into it. Twenty years later, we’re still reeling.
In the year 2000, overwhelmed by the flood of images unleashed by the internet, and a revived interest in photography, we made the decision to focus solely on images. L’Insensé-Photo would provide a curated path through the teeming world of photography.
Year after year we shared our preferences, our prejudices. To celebrate our twenty years, resisting any retrospective impulse and in the interest of throwing a party where everyone would feel welcome, we invited 50 contributors from a variety backgrounds, united by their intimacy with the photographic image.
