The renowned portrait photographer Birgit Kleber has been working on this project for 30 years, portraying her fellow photographers in impressive black-and-white photographs. This has resulted in a body of work of more than 100 images, of which Matthias Harder, director of the Helmut Newton Foundation, writes that there is “no comparable systematic group of works like the PHOTOGRAPHERS.” Among those portrayed are Sophie Calle, Nan Goldin, Peter Lindbergh, Sebastião Salgado, Cindy Sherman, and Wolfgang Tillmans.
Birgit Kleber lives in Berlin. Her photographs are in numerous collections and have been shown in over 30 solo exhibitions, including those at the Helmut Newton Foundation / Museum of Photography and the Haus am Kleistpark, both in Berlin. She has received a number of fellowships, including a travel scholarship from the Berlin Senate for Moscow.
