Jacques Camborde : The tears, a gift

Preview

In the Middle Ages, tears had a mystic character; they were considered as a gift of God. In the 17th and 18th ones show them in public.

Since the 19th and the 20th century, to show its tears is socially disapproved, even in circumstances where they would have naturally their place. This expression of intimacy seems inappropriate or offensive, embarrassing for those who weep as for those who watch.

This project was born of the refusal of this demonstration at our contemporaries, in a very large number of cultures, as opposed to spontaneous, merely human character from this expression.

The meeting of the models was made quite spontaneously around me, then by interpersonal skills and announcement.

The model summoned his sad moods, often several hours in advance, and bent in condition (concentration, inside look, video, music …) in the studio.

As only instructions: be authentic and, by reference to the Virgins of Pain of the Flemish primitive painters, minimize body expression.

A single tear and all is said.
