Contemporary History(ies) at the Institut du Monde Arabe

Preview

The institut du Monde Arabe is presenting a collective exhibition, firmly anchored in the real and turned towards the 21th century. It is spread over 700 m2 shows the works of twenty-nine emerging and established photographic artists, the majority of whom are from the Arab world. The western artists shown here are relevant in that they worked on  a place or a problem that characterizes this vast territory. Seeking neither to be comprehensive nor to limit the specific possibilities of photography in the Arab world, the exhibition favours  artists visions and in this way the public can discover the wealth and the diverse points of view of these artists, working both from within and outside their region.

By carrying out a real work of visual language, and being capable of viewing from a distance, they subscribe more to the documentary art movement than to the immediacy of reportage. Through several themes, this exhibition looks simultaneously at the history of our time and the personal stories of the people.
