Claire Chevrier, Leeds -1995 VOSTEng par CNAP
Claire Chevrier was born in 1963. The artist approaches spaces with a 24×36 format, without a tripod. While showing in her photographic work the sedimentation of history in landscape, the stigma left by the industrial civilization in the countryside, she questions the place of man within the environment that it’s shaping.
With Leeds, a picture acquired in 1996 by the Centre national des arts plastiques, Claire Chevrier records, denounces the absurdity of the land settlement with a plane compression effect. The photographer shows us a worker’s house trapped between bare trees and a nuclear center’s cooling chimneys, thus highlighting a menace weighing on human life, the fragility of the human being, and its capacity for resilience when faced with extreme life conditions generated by the industrial civilization.
