Following a residency in Sète last year, the Belgian photographer Bieke Depoorter (b. 1986) of Magnum Photos is presenting the results of her work to the citizens of the city at the Chapelle du Quartier Haut. She made several trips to Sète, visiting people’s homes, whose private lives and daily habits are revealed in a nighttime atmosphere. The interiors become the main subjects of a scene whose inhabitants, accustomed to anonymity, become actors, simple objects in a tableau, directed by the photographer. Private life behind the door, the necessary distance that allows the viewer to become a voyeur.
