Hypothèses, Rancinan + Gaudriault

Preview

Hypotheses is the second part of the Trilogy of the Moderns. Caroline Gaudriault’s and Gérard Rancinan’s artistic and editorial approach has prompted them, at each stage of their Trilogy of the Moderns journey, to choose a place which resonates and converses with their project. As keen observers of the events that shape the world we live in, Rancinan and Caroline Gaudriault have asked themselves questions about the evolution of history, about its possibilities, about the capacity of Mankind to look at and understand the past in order to create the present and envisage the future. As a chapel provides a sanctuary, a bubble provides protection and the metaphor is extensively used in the series to pose questions about contemporary life.

In the themes addressed in the twelve Hypotheses, each bubble, located alternately in the centre of a world in perpetual change, or in a deserted landscape, seems to afford succour to symbols of universal values, of swathes of history, of heroic gestures and grim struggles, of incremental advances and fragile progress.
