Hermance: Micha Auer, Photography 1950‐1960

Preview

Louis Michel Auer was born in Zurich May 30th 1933. From 1951 to 1954, he was an apprentice in advertising photography in Zurich, then  went off on his military service. On his return in 1955, he founded an advertising workshop in Geneva, got married and went on to have three children. In 1961, he gave up work in advertising photography to devote himself to a collection of cameras and prints. In 1965, he wrote about the history of photography and its inventors, and in 1971, he organised a retrospective exhibition featuring his collection. This gave rise to the idea of the Swiss Camera Museum in Vevey. For this latest exhibition, Michel Auer went back through his archives to produce some contact sheets, providing the starting point for his selection from more than 60 years of photography.
