Human nature
In Provence, where I live, the first traces of humans date back almost 10,000 years. The farmers then practice burning to raise the ewes. The current forests and the scrubland are entirely shaped by the influence of man.
Returning to “Nature” has become an artificial concept, with today’s nature not having anything natural for millennia.
These images taken over time document the possibility of a fair balance where everyone can find their place.
Henri Kartmann, photographer and visual artist, lives in Haute Provence. His work searches for signs in new landscapes and the limits of “natural” space. His environmental images seek to go beyond description, almost to the level of matter.
He is one of the founders of “Nuits photographiques de Pierrevert”.
