In the summer of 2014 I spent 24 days in Iceland. I asked 24 of my friends to “commission” me to photograph what they wanted to see, after assigning each of them a number from 1 to 24 for each day of the trip. They wrote down their requests on slips of numbered paper. None of the participants had been to Iceland or knew much about the country. They could choose anything they wanted for me to photograph, I only asked that it be feasible. I opened up up the slips of paper on the corresponding days and photographed their “commissions,” almost always on the very same day.
