Et In Arcadia Ego is a phrase invented by Virgil, who means “I (the death), I am also in Arcadia”. Arcadia is a land of mythical delights located in Greece, a land of shepherds where they lived happily for love.
From this expression, which is the type of memento mori (remember you that you are mortal) and the first found in a painting by Guercino, then twice with Nicolas Poussin, I revisit the topic of vanity paintings.
Et In Arcadia Ego is a work through the seasons which documents the true love story between two people with singular universe and their close relationship with their pack of dogs. This is a photographic meditation around a couple that I represented as they are in their everyday life and I accompanied for two years in their walks in the forest and in their reflections about pleasure and death.
