Galerie Parallax : Fake World

Preview

By Thierry Maindrault

The gallery from Aix (Aix en Provence in France) Parallax presents us with an improbable pair. Our planet shows itself under two hardly optimistic visions, themselves parallel. It was not easy to imagine the dreamlike visions, limit nightmarish, of Jean Marc Yersin coming to merge with the Cartesian conceptions and their impact in a world on the run, in the manner of Sébastien Pageot. It was not, it is not, it will not be possible. However, this idea is not lacking in interest as our planet offers a variety of situations and as man makes improbable adaptations.

In the first approach, the author seems to confront us with the balance of our delusions in the form of deformed and indigestible magmas. However, the reality of our reflections, our ambitions, our most gigantic constructions are very present in each representation of Jean Marc Yersin. Obtaining technique seems daring; but the result is very present with this overwhelming feeling of unease that prevails in front of each photograph. What have we done to make this World so ugly and so oppressive? The questioning is commensurate to the damage observed.

Opposite, Sébastien replies that our planet is not like that, it is docile, welcoming and disciplined to satisfy the Cartesian and organized desires of the human hand. The images may offend the purists of harmony and assorted color shades. The stagings are incisives and apparently very consensual with these small well-finished models or these geometric compositions that we can qualify as being very clean. Nature and its background are pliantly diluted. Everything seems to be in the best of worlds. The boomerang concocted by Sébastien Pageot is coming back to us much faster than expected. Where is the adequacy with this nature of benevolent and generous appearance on the one hand? Would it be this directing hand of the order and the method resulting from the imagination of a Man who imposes, of the Man who imposes himself. Sébastien sets up projects; but, what will remain of it, in the test of time? The light remains neutral in his images to reinforce the scope of the design, the geometric constraint of the compositions effectively takes care of everything else.

Some claim that photography is only used to record conditions. If this is really the case through all the works in this exhibition, it is time to think about it to find again a real world.
