Galerie Les Filles du Calvaire : Paulien Oltheten

Preview

Dutch artist Paulien Oltheten invites us to discover the places she has explored intensively in recent years: from Iran to Russia, including the Olympiades and La Défense districts in Paris. Two years after her remarkable exhibition at the Rencontres d´Arles and recognized by the Jury of the Découverte Award, the gallery presents a broader aspect of her work.

“The space of our life is neither continuous, nor infinite, nor homogeneous, nor isotropic. But do we know precisely where it breaks, where it curves, where it disconnects and where it comes together? “(Georges Perec)

Inspired by Perec, Paulien Oltheten’s major motivation is to question space, to study it from those who cross and experience it. Mental space and physical space engaged in a kind of double game that intensifies their bond. It is in the everydayness of beings and things that Oltheten finds her material, this material becoming absolutely evident under her patient gaze.

Les Filles du Calvaire gallery, founded in 1996 in Paris, aims to show and defend contemporary creation.

Open to a photographic season, it quickly broadened its programming to all fields of contemporary art that intersect and enrich each other (painting, sculpture, video, installation and photography), with creators increasingly favoring plural writings.
