Galerie XII Paris announces the new exhibition outside the walls of Nicolas Baghir, in collaboration with the Galerie Catherine Pennec in Clermont-Ferrand.
Major works by the artist presented alongside previously unseen pieces from his latest photographic flows.
The exhibition Dans la tête de Nicolas Baghir offers visitors a unique experience of discovering the photographic flows of the artist, a term he coined to oppose the notion of series in force in the field of photography.
The title also joins the artist’s creative space, “La Chambre”: his small studio of seven square meters on the seventh floor without elevator of a small bedroom with a window on the courtyard, in the heart of Paris. A small space where the sun’s rays only pass through a small skylight, in which Nicolas Baghir has been developing for several years in natural light an original, free work, where all the visual expressions implemented in his work since 2014 meet.
Nicolas Baghir likes to speak of “cerebral extraction” to describe his work, which comes from the bottom of the screen of his retina. He works his images as a scrambling of memory and an alteration of memory in order to stop time. He breaks his loneliness there by inviting subjects that he forges and transforms for imagined photography, between painting and photography. Mainly using slow speeds, he stops his breath on most of the interior shots before resuming it again outdoors in landscapes of loneliness that open up horizons to him that close once reassembled in “La Chambre”. This creative escape punctuates his silent apneas, like his moments of painting where he prepares his Passports on large boxes or his Perturbations which he prepares in paint on the three walls of his studio.
No photo is retouched, everything is done when the shot is taken. The digital titles, which all begin with the letter P as in Photo, leave a mystery hovering over the subjects, offering total freedom of interpretation to the viewer.
