The 3rd Festival of Surrealist Photography in Fréjus will be held until October 10th. The festival sent us this declaration and here is the selection we made!
Surrealism was born out of the horrors of the First World War and our questioning of human nature. It penetrated all forms of artistic expression, from literature to music, painting, sculpture, cinema … Surrealism is timeless and if artists have always used brushes, stones, words, notes to make work of creation, new schools appeared. Today “The photographic tool” is an innovative vector for a whole generation of artists, with limitless dreamlike universes. If photography has the habit of capturing the visible, an instant of the real, surrealism helps to offer it new perspectives, which influences the definition of photography as art, introducing innovative notions in the interpretation of the visible. and the invisible. Artists like Man Ray, Dali, Lee Miller, Dora Maar, Bellmer, were pioneers in this art, today Shana, Parke Harisson, Zybura, Stranka, Davoli, Putrana, Freitas reverse the reality of appearances, followed by a whole generation of creators. The Fréjus Surrealist Photography Festival, unique in France, was born out of the desire of the “Forum Julii Photo” association to be the showcase for these new players in today’s art scene.
