This photographic work by François Maurel highlights the fundamental, often overlooked, role of women in the preservation of marine ecosystems and the sustainable management of water resources.
The City of Nice, one of the first cities to sign the European Charter for Equality of Women and Men in Local Life, is very committed to this essential value for our democratic society.
It therefore wanted to highlight the exhibition “Femmes : gardiennes de l’Eau et des Océans”, presented in parallel with the 3rd United Nations Conference on the Ocean, which pays tribute to these women by revealing their deep and vital connection to water, through traditional fishing, resource management and the preservation of ancestral knowledge.
These photographs, full of strength and poetry, capture the essence of their daily reality, oscillating between traditions and innovations, and bear witness to their courage and their essential role in the preservation of our biodiversity.
The exhibition “Femmes : gardiennes de l’Eau et des Océans” is presented on the occasion of International Women’s Day by the City of Nice on the Promenade des Anglais in the format 150 cm * 110 cm (Opening on March 8 at 11 a.m.) and also for the United Nations during the forum on the Oceans which will take place in June.
