Water is a precious commodity that will continue to be appreciated in the coming years. Conflicts arising from control of territories rich in fresh water are increasing, placing the transboundary rivers in the heart of the water war.
Franck Vogel proposes a photographic itinerary to discover four iconic rivers, from the Brahmaputra to the Nile, the Colorado and the Jordan River. Brahmaputra becomes an economic and energy issues for India and China, which have engaged in a race to the construction of hydroelectric dams. For centuries, access to the Nile water is a major challenge for Egypt. It has been the center of conflict in Sudan. The Colorado is, meanwhile, the lifeline of the American Southwest. But it is also the only river in the world that does not flow into the sea : the US dams now prevent it from flowing into Mexico. The Jordan River was reduced to a trickle in recent years, as most of the water is diverted for irrigation of agricultural land and water supply of Israeli cities.
In this book of photographs, complete with explanatory captions, maps and infographics, Franck Vogel puts within reach every understanding of the economic, ecological and geopolitical issues related to the question of water.
