White regality
In Copenaghen, UNESCO World Capital of Architecture 2023-2025, I have had the great privilege to enter The Royal Danish Opera House’s by the Danish architect Henning Larsen and I have been impressed by the elegant geometry of its interiors. From the chandeliers in the foyer created by the international artist Olafur Eliasson to the design of the main spaces, everything resonates with the surrounding landscape of the city furthering blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor space. The Opera is located in the historical site of Holmen, former grounds of the Royal Naval Base and Dockyards, so to reduce the carbon footprint by cutting down transportation distances for bicycles and pedestrians and to showcase the beauty of the Copenaghen channels. It is an amazing ultra modern, eye catching and eco friendly building, with large windows, public spaces and a terrace looking over the water. On top, it keeps a traditional link with the historical Danish design in every piece of its furniture, above all by the signature of Fritz Hansen and Arne Jacobsen celebrated authors.
