After a zero edition in Paris at the Palais Royal in 2016 and a first edition at the Cité Internationale des Arts – Paris in 2017, ¡Viva Villa! with the support of the South Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, the French Institute and the Academy of Fine Arts, moved to the Villa Méditerranée, in Marseille from September 29 to October 7, 2018.
The festival ¡Viva Villa! was conceived as a rendez-vous of the young contemporary creation where the plurality of disciplines, looks and perspectives meet, and dialogue. It aims to gather every year the works of the residents of three prestigious artistic residences – Villa Medici, Villa Kujoyama and the Casa Velázquez – as well as many invited artists, around a red thread, chosen by its curators Cécile Debray and Federico Nicolao.
The Villa Mediterrané, located in the heart of Marseille, will host the 2018 edition, focusing on a triple program and a theme: Borders An exhibition will present the work of about forty artists, musicians, engravers, designers, photographers , architects, filmmakers, writers and art historians.
Six photographers: Stéphanie Solinas, David De Beyter, Marie B. Schneider, Sylvain Couzinet-Jacques, Julien Guinand and Tadashi Ono are part of this edition.
