Caroline Hayeur is the guest of honor at the 17th edition of the Festival Are You Experiencing held from March 29th to April 30th, 2024 in Le Havre. Inspired by the photographer’s body of work, those responsible for the festival have chosen the theme of the 2024 edition: La Nuit Je Voyage…(During the Night I Travel)
“Radioscopie du dormeur” is an installation combining photography and video produced in Quebec. It is being broadcast as a premiere in its complete version at the Carré du Théâtre de l’Hôtel de Ville in Le Havre, a privileged exhibition space, in the heart of the city. An artist residency is added to the photographer’s stay as a continuation of her research around “sleepers”.
Bodies fused under crumpled sheets, blankets modulating shapes, the human is thus caught in the act of abandonment, delivered to the camera as the only witness of his sleepy state. A few glances, sometimes sleepy, sometimes awake, glance furtively into the dark, their pupils dilated by the darkness. What time is it ? Time freezes until one of the sensors placed above the bed detects new movement and records the moment.
« Radioscopie du dormeur » offers a study on the mechanisms of sleep and highlights the individual or collective behaviors of human beings in their different nocturnal cycles. By leading this new reflection on sleep, Caroline Hayeur attempts to unravel the mystery of our nocturnal intimacies from an aesthetic, scientific and social perspective.

Resolutely optimistic, marked by field experience since the beginning of the 90s, the artist explores questions of the social body: conviviality, sharing and differences. Her quest is that of places and forms of socialization – friendly, filial, plural communities – in the tradition of documentary and humanist portraiture. She acts like a visual anthropologist and her approach can be described as everyday ethnology. Her spatial arrangements and installations, generally large deployments, fall within the field of visual photography.
