Farewell Göksin –by Sylvie Rebbot

Many male photographers and journalists will pay homage to Goksin Sipahioglu. I would have liked a woman to talk about him of his acknowledgment of the feminine other.

He loved to be surrounded by women some beautiful others less so , but thought all were important. I remember of a precise night a friday ( the american magazine close on friday) there had been a special event in Poland a trip of the pope. I had gone late in the evening with a colleague picture editor to the airport to pick up films brought back by a private airplane, that we had to have processed and edited. Sipa was the only lab opened all nite.

We were a group of women head of photo agencies and picture editors ( The profession is now often feminine). We were waiting for the films to come out of the lab. Göksin made coffee, talked making sure of our welfare and had for each one a kind word, an attention.

The night was very long, very tiring but he never left us, I am sure that when we finally finished he went back to work in his office still prim in spite of the long hours surrounded by his dear newspapers.
He was generous and always had a reason to invite in the best restaurants, to offer flowers. One should also remember that.
