Magnum Photos, in partnership with Nikon France and the Bayeux Calvados-Normandy War Correspondents’ Award, is pleased to unveil its new photo workshop on the Battle of Normandy. From 9 to 13 October 2023, follow in the footsteps of the greatest photographers of the Second World War alongside Lorenzo Meloni.
During this workshop, you will be invited to create a photo essay of your choice. With the town of Bayeux as a reference point and the support of the photographer Magnum, immerse yourself in the history of the Second World War by visiting the emblematic sites of the landings and experience the making of a photo report in conditions similar to those of a commission.
After five intensive days of shooting and editing, a selection of the work will be shown at a public screening, definitively committing the group to the Prize programme. The workshop is an ideal place to meet and exchange with professionals on the profession of photography as well as on the major issues of our century. It is an integral part of the festival’s programme, with access to discussions, exhibitions, screenings and prize-giving.
Nikon France, financial supporter of the workshop, will offer participants a selection of cameras to use during the week. A member of the team will be on hand to provide assistance and to help participants get to grips with the equipment.
Bayeux and the surrounding area:
Bayeux is a town in the north-west of France, in Normandy. It was the first town in France to be liberated by the Allies and was miraculously spared by the bombing in 1944. It is only a few kilometres from the landing beaches (Utah Beach, Omaha Beach, Sword Beach, Juno Beach, Gold Beach) and strategic towns such as Cherbourg, Caen, Saint-Lô.
These places are accessible by car, bus or train.

The financial support of Nikon France allows us to offer a 50% discount on the total price of the workshop.
Participation in the workshop will be by selection. Participants will be selected by the Magnum Photos team and Nikon France.
