The Bird in Flight magazine announced the winners of the first Ukrainian national photographic award Ukrcontempphoto. The winners were decided in three nominations: Discovery of the Year, Photobook of the Year, and the Award for Contribution to Photography.
In the category Discovery of the Year, the winner is Yana Kononova with her project Under the Weather. Kononova’s work was the best among the nine projects reviewed by the expert jury. In Under the Weather, the photographer explores melancholy. The work was chosen for ‘perfect visual imagery’ and ‘clear statement.’ You can discover Under the Weather on the website of the award.
The winner in the category Photobook of the Year is the book KOCHETOV by Kharkiv photographers Viktor and Serhiy Kochetov. It includes panoramic photographs of Kharkiv taken by the photographers in the 1970-2000 and hand-painted. More information about the book can be found here.
The winner of the Award for Contribution to Photography is Viktor Marushchenko, the founder of his own photography school, 5.6 photography magazine, and an online platform for selling photographs. The jury chose Marushchenko for his contribution to the development of the Ukrainian photographic community and popularizing art photography.
The prize in nominations Discovery of the Year and The Award for Contribution to Photography is 30,000 UAH. In nomination Photobook of the Year — Panasonic Lumix camera.
