The American street photographer not revealed during her lifetime, Vivian Maier (1926-2009) leaves behind a sum of photographic archives that testify her curiosity for the world. A dive in the second half of the 20th century, between America, where she lived, and the Champsaur, this valley of the Hautes-Alpes where she returned for an initiatory journey on the lands of her ancestors. Today exhumed, her photos compose a superb and moving work, competing with the biggest names of the American street photography like the French humanistic photo. The museum exhibits this artist “out of frame” around a presentation of 140 images, views of New York and Chicago for the most part, but also Champsaur, not to mention some testimonies of her stay in 1959 in Grenoble.
The exhibition is produced in collaboration with diChroma photography and the courtesy of Howard Greenberg Gallery, New York. The Vivian Maier French fund accessible thanks to the Vivian Maier Association and the Champsaur.
