Photography Exhibition Parc Floral de Paris : Giandra de Castro – A Fleur d’Eau

Preview

For the 150th anniversary of Impressionism and the 100th anniversary of Surrealism, the Parc Floral de Paris is hosting an exhibition showcasing Art in Water.

With this exhibition of unretouched photographs, you will never see water the same way again, and you’ll be inspired to return to the edge of a lake to contemplate it further. Let the water disturb you, overturn your perspective, challenge your spatial bearings, and lead you to rediscover nature as an artist from a new angle, for even greater admiration. There’s no need to retouch the photographs because everything is already there from the start, right on the surface of the water: the movements and optical effects of water that the Impressionists loved to paint; the confusion of planes on the horizontal surface of the water, creating surreal pictorial universes.

Come and see them on display along the main path of the Parc Floral de Paris, which features 24 large-format outdoor photos. The Citizen Space, located on the main path, hosts 20 additional works.

On October 23, the artist invites you to a free conference (after park entry) at the Citizen Space, followed by a guided tour of the exhibition to celebrate the release of her book “L’Art dans l’Eau.” Sessions at 10 am, 3 pm, and 5 pm: Water in Art (evolution of the representation of the water element) and Art in Water (with a guided tour and book signing).

Opening on October 28th 18h at l’Espace City’zen, Maison du Jardin Botanique, Rte de la Pyramide, 75012 Paris

Giandra de Castro

A Franco-Brazilian art photographer and Water Ambassador, Giandra de Castro photographs, without retouching, what she sees on the surface of water. “Giandra’s work is unique, never seen before,” said Leonard Gianadda, founder of the Pierre Gianadda Art Foundation in Montigny. Encouraged by these words, Giandra de Castro has exhibited her photographs in more than 50 different venues worldwide, and outdoors around large lakes. This year, her work can be seen in a collective exhibition at Palazzo Riverdi during the Venice Biennale, at various Contemporary Art fairs, and at the Montier-en-Der Naturalist Festival, one of the largest in Europe, where she presents her conference “Being of Water,” also featured at the Image and Snow Festival in 2023, as well as to hydrologists from the Institute of Environmental Geosciences (CNRS), following the Perspectives of Water event in Combloux with Etienne Klein. In this conference, the artist shares her journey of personal transformation and initiation into the poetry and philosophy of water. She uses her photographs to illustrate the dreamy, philosophical, and optical properties of water and its reflections. This conference is one of a kind, blending scientific, metaphysical, and aesthetic elements. Giandra de Castro invites us to discover water in a new light, exploring how it inspires and transforms our perception of the world.
