Created in 2016 on the initiative of the Casa de Velázquez in Madrid, the Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto and the Académie de France in Rome – Villa Medici, the festival of artist residences brings you together every year to discover the artists , creators and researchers in residence in the 3 institutions. The opportunity for them to present their most recent works, and to meet the public during the inaugural weekend.
For this 5th edition, Cécile Debray, curator of the festival since its creation, imagined with the artists – especially during the Covid 19 epidemic and the months of confinement – an exhibition that is placed “at human height”. And which, like the work of Pierre Michon, questions the fragility of the human condition, the imaginaries of living things, humanisms, realisms and intimate writings …
Around the exhibition Les vies minuscules which will bring together the work of some fifty artists – visual artists, musicians, graphic artists, designers, filmmakers, art historians, photographers – and will offer a catalog, a series of films and a mediation designed in collaboration with the artists, several events are scheduled:
- Two days of performances on October 24 and 25
Concerts, dance, screenings, debates, performances: a series of meetings for a launch that powerfully expresses all the diversity of disciplines and talents.
- Professional encounters on October 26
Organized in collaboration with the South Region, the Institut français and the Lambert Collection, a day of interviews, debates and workshops, devoted to the notion of international mobility after the crisis we are going through, about environmental issues, societal commitment of artists, freedom of movement but also about the integration of the virtual into our systems and new challenges that we are currently discovering.
51 artists, 21 disciplines, many guests, all gathered to give the public a living glimpse of contemporary creation.
