From August 28 to September 26 in Hendaye (France), the gallery L’ANGLE opens its season with the exhibition “En passant” [Passing-by] by photographer Pierre Lebouc.
It is not a cliché to say that photography is for Pierre Lebouc like an evidence, the reflection of his thought. It would be vain then, to summarize the visions that run through his mind in a few too rare images unjustly extracted from his numerous works under the enlarger, if not by presenting them alongside each other in an exhibition that is not exhaustive – how could it be? – at least sufficiently large to show the most revealing contours.
For the man who, as a child, in his parents’ car, saw the windshield as a movie screen, life seems to unfold in a journey punctuated by signs, lights and shadows, roads and pauses, one image calling for another, and the memory that constantly confronts the present. Photographs from a very personal and yet so universal universe that do not fail to touch the heart of those who know how to stop for a moment, ‘just passing by’.
On his work as a photographer, Pierre Lebouc writes: “… Because I never really settle down anywhere and to photograph I prefer to take the road. To drive to cross the light which invades me and directs me… To photograph on the road. But in this time, images also pass by, perhaps for later, and I can then take time for a place, a subject… And leave again. I photograph while often looking for a time before, illusory, which lives its last moment at each release, just by passing.”
About Pierre Lebouc
Born in Albi in 1964, Pierre Lebouc lives and works in Toulouse. In 1987, he met Jacques Baris, a portrait photographer from the Landes region, who taught him how to shoot in the studio and the different stages of the black and white laboratory. He became a professional photographer in 1989 and developed his black and white printing activity in 1997. His work evolves between exhibition prints and reportage. Today Pierre Lebouc devotes himself to his personal photography as well as to the conception of artists’ books.
His work has been shown inn numerous exhibitions, such as in Toulouse, at the Château d’Eau gallery: “Aux Landettes” in 2004, on the walls of the Raymond VI garden with “absence” in 2007, “Correspondence” at the Le Confort des Étranges gallery, with Charlotte Bravi in 2019 and at the Pôle Culturel de la Manufacture de Montolieu (Aude) in 2018.
Pierre Lebouc’s exhibition brings together, for the very first time, different series: “aux Landettes,” “absence,” “flowers,” “wandering,” “on the road,” “small cars,” “signs,” “abandoned facade,” “correspondence” with Charlotte Bravi.
