The Charivari Gallery in Marseille is exhibiting the work of photographer Jean Michel Daumen. This Marseille doctor has been taking the pulse of Marseille’s beating heart for decades, situating it on the Corniche Kennedy, which he explores with the discretion of Jean-Louis Sief or his masters Mario Giacomelli, capturing singular moments of life.
His poetic, ironic, and always benevolent gaze recounts this Mediterranean humanity, made of laughter, wrinkles, tattoos, and selfies. His Fugi captures the sunshine of our lives. Here, the sovereign carriage of an Asian tourist with an umbrella. He is there when a gust of mistral lifts a skirt and also carries away the ears of his mistress’s dachshund, and this red goddess who challenges passersby from the balcony of the Hôtel Perron. Powerful and magical, it’s on display until July 31.
