This grant is awarded to a young professional photographer eager to undertake a documentary photography project in France or abroad, focusing on social, economic, political, or cultural subjects.
Presided over by a prestigious jury, in 2023 chaired by Sam Stourdzé (Director of the French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici), this grant provides the laureate with the means to finance a significant personal project and have the necessary time for its realization.

Application Guidelines:
• Applicants must be no older than 35 years old as of December 31, 2024; • Must be able to submit their application in French; • Must have already completed and published at least two documentary projects in print and/or online publications, in a book, or in an exhibition catalog. These publications must include several representative photographs from each project for the applicant to be eligible; • Must practice photography as their main profession.
Recent recipients of the Photographer Grant from the Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation include: Pierre Vanneste (2019), Mouna Saboni (2020), Marion Péhée (2021), Aline Deschamps (2022)… In 2023, Adrienne Surprenant received the Photographer Grant to document the consequences of climate change in Nigeria and South Africa.
