Espace Durev : Paul Tourenne : Some notes of happiness

Preview

You have to have lived in the last century to know this name: Paul Tourenne.
His exhibition is entitled: Some notes of happiness, it is at Espace Durev until October 2.
Caroline Stein presents it this way:

“From the laughing moment to everyday scenes, Paul Tourenne’s photographs are those of an era, of a state of mind, of an air of lightness. Tenor-soloist of the Frères Jacques, he was, at the same time, the mischievous eye which captured the people, the ordinary lives and the towns crossed throughout the group’s tours. His photos reveal a true poetry of the moment, echoing the songs of the time, full of tenderness and mischief. Influenced by Cartier-Bresson, Doisneau and Boubat, he captures lights and the unusual. His humanist gaze offers us enchanted sequences, in suspended blacks and whites: for this singer-photographer, art was truly practiced in “ama-coeur”, as his friend Fred Mella said, to deliver his sweet vision of the world.” – Caroline Stein

Born in Paris in 1923, Paul Tourenne has been passionate about images since childhood. With his first salary he bought a 6 x 9 Lumière with bellows, and began to photograph, constantly machine-gunning and developing his photos himself. At the end of the war, he moved to the Rolleiflex 6 x 6, with which he won a fourth prize in a competition organized by the firm, then very quickly to the 24 x 36 with a Leica that he never left. Thanks to the ease of use of the latter he was able to indulge in his shooting frenzy. Very eclectic in his subjects, he can be inspired by a character, a landscape, an architecture, a street scene or quite simply light. An amateur photographer, he exhibits individually but also during “Trio pour une expo” with his friends Fred Mella, the golden voice of the Compagnons de la Chanson, and Pierre Jamet, tenor of the Quatre Barbus, also amateur photographers. In 1993 Maeght published a selection of his photos.
