My name is Enguerran OUVRAY, I am a 32 year old, French, living in Paris.
The WANTED series is an attempt to photograph the feelings I had while discovering New York City : I felt lonely, sometimes harassed by the noise and speed of life around me… everything was swirling and it took huge efforts to get a grasp on my emotions. As mesmerizing and passionate it could be, I felt is that no one could truly live in that city…
It took me many days to start taking photographs. When I eventually found the guts to do it, all I wanted to do was harm the City as much as it had hurt my intimate frame of mind… I needed to desintegrate its shapes and inhabitants, I needed to shoot people as close to their faces as possible and male them look like ghosts, screaming for their soul to get out of there.
I shot the whole series with one single wide-angle lens, moved like a ghost in the streets, in some sort of a trance, lead by aggressiveness and astonishment.
The method (wide angle + a peculiar shutter speed) makes in depth retouches unnecessary to offer the rendering you are seeing in these photographs : I developed these images exactly like in a chemical lab, with variable zones of density and contrast.
