ROOM 5
ROOM 5 is an object book, a tribute to the hotel Les Cabanettes and the work of architect Armand Pellier, created by photographer Emmanuelle Firman, and illuminated by the texts of architect Anne- Marie Llanta, who retraces the hotel’s genesis.
When Emmanuelle Firman discovered the site, she was seized by an urgency to capture it, to transform the invisible into the visible. Guided by the light and soul of Armand Pellier, she spent 3 days capturing the intangible. “I could hardly breathe for fear of missing something,” she recounts. This photographic “trance” gave rise to a series of photographs that offer an almost cinematographic vision of the hotel, a whole new look at the spirit of the place, a fourth, more spiritual dimension, in the image of its creator.
This timeless place, preserved unchanged since its creation in 1967, is the Hotel Les Cabanettes, an artistic work of art located in the heart of the Camargue. Inspired by American motels and the golden stone of the Gard region, architect Armand Pellier conceived this hotel as a work of art, a unique piece of architecture now labelled “Remarkable Contemporary Architecture of the 20th Century”. It’s not just a hotel. Everyone who stays here leaves a little different. Everyone feels a gentle soothing, a strange inner silence.
“This book was truly born of the desire to recreate and share the physical and emotional experience of this place, and to pay homage to this sanctuary of harmony and balance bequeathed by the architect. The book is a true declaration of love for this place, like a sequence from a film that is playing before your eyes and that I hope will take you with it.” Emmanuelle Firman.
