Itinérance is an exhibition of Louise Skira’s photographs. This show is presented in several german cities between February and September 2013.
Itinérance is composed of fifteen pictures taken between 2008 and 2009 in Paris XIXe arrondissement. They are part of a whole representing the desire to keep in images night fallen on the Parisian infrastructure and architecture.
Linked by their similarities, they set up a bridge: symbol of a crossing point. The deserted streets with no apparent human life, show furtive shadows seen from behind. Here, human beings are reduced to silhouettes. « Gare du Nord », « Rails » or « Passage » are significant titles of an apparently motionless space, yet implicitly on the move, where the possibility of some other world is always rising to the surface.
This series, which is essentially composed of figurative or realistic pictures, anticipates the desire to keep in image a slice of life, a moment of « Time » which, through its proper nature, is escaping.
Louise Skira
I was born in July 1985; I live and work in Paris. As a painter’s daughter, I experienced the artistic practice as a natural fact, through the language and views inherited from my father. After a master’s in psychology, I decided to devote myself to the black and white and color silver photography that I have been practising since the age of 16. More than 10 years ago now, I chose the photography medium as a form of language and artistic expression. This medium enables me to recreate through pictures an inner and imaginative world which could not exteriorize itself otherwise. Facing image, there is music which I have been practising since my childhood, the piano first, then the cello. I started with color photography. But black and white soon dominated. My purpose is to be able to « draw » and see light in dark scenes. In the surrounding « darkness » of these pictures, I wish to see spotlights and make them become the main subject of the scene . The idea is to play constantly with dark black, grey, white shades… and the shadow. I think that both photography and music, daily practised, will always be essential components of my identity.
