This year, “Dissidence # 2019” exposes eleven women photographers from the East around guest photographer: Anaïs Boudot. This is happening at the Château de Courcelles in Montigny-lès-Metz (Metz Métropole), from March 2nd to 17th, 2019.
For three years, Dissidence has been a collective exhibition mixing professionals and amateurs: “We love this mix because the ambition of Dissidence is to accompany the changes in contemporary photography and to create bridges between authors and spectators,” explains Claire. Jolin, one of the founders with Véronique L’Hoste and Irène Scacciatella. Disturbing, observant, prickly or insolent, these twelve women photographers claim a place for themselves in art and expose their photographic process whether documentary, author, visual artist or experimental…
The other particularity of Dissidence is that each project has its own scenography. “From the first year, the constraint of exhibiting in a listed castle with a loaded decor and few walls became the hallmark of the exhibition. It forces photographers to get out of the conditioning “white-cube” to propose a hanging that highlights their intention. This year again, three projects will be presented beyond the walls (without wall support): “You are my presence in the world” where Isabelle Chabot unfurls love and trauma on a roll more than 4 meters long suspended in the air; Fabienne Muggeo-Ververt exhibit “Revelation” an intimate project where photos are placed on the ground in light boxes that light up only if you stay in front; and Mélina Farine forces us to look at her scientific-artistic research of “Plante-fiction” installed in showcases placed at ground level.
No common theme for Dissidence. “Dissidence tries to show what makes sense in contemporary photographic practices. The choice of Anaïs Boudot as guest seemed obvious to us because it questions the specificity of the photographic medium “, explains Véronique L’Hoste. “By going back and forth between film and digital, sometimes I accentuate sometimes I am reducing the border that distinguishes them,” says Anaïs Boudot about “The Lake” (a video of 4:25 minutes) and her series ” In absentia “, two works presented at Dissidence # 2019.
A word often comes back in the intentions of the artists: “WORLD”. The deaf world of ” claustrophobic atmosphere”, a series of Kathleen Meier that alters our physical and psychic perception. Or Morgane Wax’s “Ailleurs Land”, a quest for self and others shaped accordion fashion to discover isolated, sitting on a chair, like an island in the middle of the exhibition; “In the folds of the world”, Delphine Buchser photographs her children and the soft and enveloping light of their presence in her life; the experimental universe of Claire Jolin with “Chemigram”, analogue images made without a lens and which nevertheless speak to us of space and time; For her part, Laure Mersch documents adolescence, the moment of waiting for “A world to come”; Alix Jaminais has definitely found herself on the other side of the world, that of “The Ents”; And finally, Camille Krajecki with “Infans” and Joelle Heimlich with “Ephemeral” explore the world of childhood.
A few more lines to talk about the novelties: Émeline Dufrennoy, independent curator of Strasbourg, animated a workshop for four months entitled “From editing to scenography, Thinking the exhibition”. Organized by the association Photo-Forum in Metz, it allowed its members to respond in a relevant way to the call for proposals of Dissidence # 2019. One week before the opening of the exhibition, the association Photo-Forum organizes a conference-meeting with Anaïs Boudot, photographer invited by Dissidence.
Nice program, just 90 minutes from Paris.
