Death of Héctor García

Preview

The Mexican photographer Héctor García died this week. Born in Mexico City in 1923, García studied under Manuel Alvarez Bravo and Gabriel Figueroa. Beginning in 1945, he worked as a photojournalist for various publications in Mexico and abroad. He rubbed shoulders with great Mexican artists like Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, Orozco and Salvador Novo, producing classic reportages on Che Guevara, Luis Echeverria, miners and the 1968 Tlatelolco massacre. García was fond of saying that his social circle resembled the Luis Buñuel film Los Olvidados.
