Ever since moving here, in Florida, in 2005 I have been captivated by the variety, beauty and oddities of this state with its ever expanding population. This series is a work-in-progress—an ongoing project about Florida, its people, its landscape. Just south of Ft. Lauderdale, lies the town of Hollywood Beach. The “boardwalk” (its actually concrete) stretches along the beach for about a mile or two with an endless series of cheap beach food joints, swimsuit stores, bars, and souvenir shops, cheap motels facing east toward the ocean.
I was born in Montreal, Canada in 1943 and studied fine art at l’ecole des Beaux Arts in Montreal. I became interested in becoming a photographer after viewing the work of Robert Frank, Andre Kertez and Henri Cartier Bresson.
For 4 years, I studied with the Canadian photographer John Max and participated in a number of group shows and solo exhibits in Canada before moving to the United States in 1992 I now spend my time equally between Williston, Vermont and West Palm Beach, Florida.
Although I spent the major part of my career, working in black and white silver-based film , I became increasingly interested in digital format, because of the extra degree of control over the image quality that I felt it allowed.
