The photographic series entitled “Once upon a time today …” offers an amazing outlook on the our world. It is composed of twenty productions of fantasy characters from tales and mythology, adapted to contemporary life.
The artist photographer David Fogel develops real reinterpretations of these legendary figures by deliberately concealing them their magical side. Their characteristics are mixed with modern situations to raise some questions. This approach aims to confront the viewer with the problems of our societies reported in each of his compositions.
His work is clearly different from a simple illustration work, but much closer to a committed approach. The photographic interest lies in a sociological analysis brought by the author. The reference to the tale is no longer the main subject of the image, but serves as a pretext to highlight social facts through famous figures.
David Fogel is a young French photographer, originally from Toulouse. He studies Cinema and Photography in Lyon. One notices in his pictures the influences marked by stagings of Erwin Olaf or Gregory Crewdson. Passionate about art and painting, he is also inspired by Edward Hopper canvases to imagine its various photographs.
The series is completed with a portraits collection of many actors that can be found on his fan page and soon on his website.
