Series Industrial Park is a part of my larger project about Industrial Heritage across Europe.
I made a series of the Industrial Park in Emscher Park, Duisburg, Ruhr region, Germany. The Ruhr region used to be much polluted in the 19th and 20th century due to the intensive steel and coal industries. In recent years and after 20 years of planning and groundwork this region has been transformed into a recreation landscape park. Enormous structures were converted into exhibition places, museums, concert venues, restaurants, housing, commerce, and offices. The regional planners preserved and reused the impressive artefacts of the industrial area instead of demolishing them or leaving them abandoned. The region was also able to keep its unique identity of industrial society.
Emscher Park is the largest renaturalization project in Europe, with a length of 70 km and covering an area of 460 km2. Regeneration of the Emscher river is still an ongoing process.
With my series, I wanted to highlight the positive human approach of resolving such huge problems of abandoned industries with creative ideas and sustainable solutions.
