I am a 27 year old photographer; I grew up in France and moved to New York about 5 years ago.
As I didn’t have a natural aptitude for painting or drawing; I was drawn to photography, as the camera became my brush to portray the beauty that I witnessed. By “beauty,” I mean what moves you, and forces one to surrender themselves, whether it be content, laughter, embarrassment, anger or even frustration.
If “street photography” is a genre in itself, then it is the one I practice; and what better playground that NYC? the people, the moments… There is enough going on out there to not have to “create” shots; even what is said to be banal can be more powerful than a perfectly set-up shot…
During my late night stumbles, candidly taking shots of random people, I became captivated by the homeless; I was shared between my fascination for their denial of society, and my concern for the fact that society tends to deny them. As we try to make them invisible, I wanted to make sure we can see they are sleeping outside.
