Preview

His name is Matthieu Cellard.

He is a gourmet, passionate and a photographer from Lyon

He has just been appointed Ambassador of the Canson® Infinity Foundation.

Canson® Infinity strongly values its partnership with photographers and artists from around the world.

Besides their love of photography and fine art, they also share Canson® Infinity’s passion for artistic printing.

He was selected for his atypical culinary shots revealing the natural side of the products and conveying “gourmandise”.

Matthieu Cellard: a photographer animated by the “cuisine” for 20 years, a graduate of the SEPR photo school in Lyon, was bathed in photography from  childhood. This is what inspired him at the age of 17 to start a career as a photographer. Initially, he produced decorative photos for catalogs such as Mobalpa or Castorama (kitchen furniture brands). He then worked for 10 years for the Nomade Productions studio with three photographers each having a specific activity: a technician, an editorial manager and a photographer specializing in characters. This experience allowed him to discover and master different techniques and in particular to work with artificial light.

Then in 2003 he started his career as a solo photographer after realizing that the kitchen sector was what he liked best. He now produces portraits of winegrowers, chefs and producers to render their work as natural as possible and to reveal their uniqueness under the lens. He is happy to be carried away by encounters, especially if they lead him to a cellar or a kitchen and the pleasure of the senses enlivens them.

From renowned restaurateurs to palaces and starred restaurants in France, including book publishing for the biggest specialist publishers, Matthieu is known and recognized for his meticulous work, his love of beautiful composition and lights that whet the appetite. . Like any true enthusiast, he knows how to step aside, the better to show us the radiance of passion: the generosity in the smile and in the hands of the chefs and winegrowers he meets; the delicacy in the eye of a crustacean, the bluish fingers of a Bresse poultry, the disturbing curve of a quince or a grape; harmony in the composition of a plate like a landscape.

Matthieu prefers to use daylight which is in his eyes the most natural and the most pleasant to work with. When taking a photograph, it is essential for him to play with the brightness using white and black cardboard, mirrors … to obtain the desired result.

“It is especially in the context of exhibitions that I have to use Canson® Infinity paper and in particular Baryta Prestige 340g. It is a magnificent paper with a material, a texture and the velvet side which reproduce the images on matt platinum. It was in collaboration with Atelier Ooblik that we organized an exhibition of Jean Michel Carette’s dishes (restaurant “Aux Terrasses” a one Michelin star) that I photographed. A very good experience!” Explains Matthieu Cellard.
