Starting on November 26, 2022 Camera Work Gallery presents the exhibition Olaf Heine: Human Conditions with works by Berlin-based photographic artist Olaf Heine. Featuring more than 40 works, the exhibition shows numerous main works from the artist’s body of work as well as new photographs, which are exhibited for the very first time. It is Olaf Heine’s most comprehensive exhibition so far, who is exclusively presented by CAMERA WORK Gallery. In the context of the exhibition, the photobook Olaf Heine: Human Conditions is published by Prestel publishing house.
Olaf Heine (*1968 in Hanover) is well known for his staged portraits of musicians, actors, authors, and artists. He studied photography at the renowned Lette-Verein in Berlin. At the same time he continued working with international celebrities, whereas his focus has always been on music. Until today, he has created numerous album covers, international campaigns as well as music videos. His works have been exhibited around the world in galleries and museums and are published in several monographs.
However, next to his celebrity portraits, Olaf Heine has always produced art series dedicated to particular themes and motifs. His series »Rwandan Daughters« (2019) deals with the victims of the Rwandan genocide (1994). In touching portraits, over a timespan of three years Olaf Heine photographed the victims of the genocide and their children.
He draws inspiration from exploring complexities, influences and potential synergies between individuals and their surrounding environment. His photographic works have been published on countless album covers, in four photography books: »Leaving the Comfort Zone« (Hatje Cantz, 2008); »I Love You But I’ve Chosen Rock« (Hatje Cantz, 2011); »Brazil« (teNeues, 2014) and »Rwandan Daughters« (Hatje Cantz, 2019) – and are part of prestigious private and public collections. His latest book »Human Conditions« will be published in October 2022.
Olaf Heine is exclusively represented by Camera Work Gallery.
