Portrait of Britain 2017. This is the name of an ambitious project, initiated by the British Journal of Photography (BJP). The exhibition started Friday, September 1st 2017. It will take place until September 30th, in train stations, central streets and shopping centers of the kingdom.
Millions of people will see these faces. Fifty-year-olds, red-haired and blond, white and black teenagers, old girls and malicious grandfathers, thirty-year-old settlers and galley-men … British diversity in its very best, the land of multiculturalism! This is what Portrait of Britain 2017 is about: the faces of the people, anonymous, unknown as well as recognized, and as a more wider metaphor, the impersonal, general, universal face of the whole United Kingdom.
Over a year, The British Journal of Photography received more than 8,000 portraits. Only 100 of these photographs were selected. Among the photographers chosen are Tim Fisher, Laura Pannack, Sikpe Visser, Laurence Gibson, Sarah Lee, David Hawley …
The exhibition is made possible by Nikon and JCDecaux, which lend its advertising billboards for a month.
