Bordeaux: Félix Arnaudin, The Melancholy Watchman at Musée d’Aquitaine

The Musée d’Aquitaine in Bordeaux, France, is presenting the first retrospective of the photographs of Félix Arnaudin. The 260 photographs, shot between 1874 and 1921, including 90 original prints taken from the Arnaudin archive in the museum’s collection, will be on display through October 31st, 2015.

In the second half of the 19th century, the landscape, economy and ways of life in Les Landes, France, underwent a drastic change. Félix Arnaudin (b. 1844) was deeply attached to the cultural traditions he saw disappearing, and decided,in his early 30’s, to devote his life to preserving the oral and visual heritage of the region.
