Je vous écris de Turquie
Baptiste de Ville d’Avray’s photography is both artistic and documentary. It focuses on the areas that surround us and the men who live there. Baptiste uses a color palette to idealize the people he encounters as he roams the landscape. The series Je vous écris de Turquie (I’m Writing To You From Turkey) is a musical journey, a sort of chronicle where he records his impressions of Turkey.
The people in his photographs seem to pose, as if they were waiting for us. The landscapes and architecture seem immobile. The whole thing is familiar, like a memory. The photographer presents them like a picture gallery in the image of Magritte, combining humor, smoothness and discrepancy.
Baptiste de Ville d’Avray is a French photographer, born in 1982. Self-taught, he lives and works in France and Africa.
