I remember that, during a pleasant discussion about photography, Edouard Boubat had told me, “In the end, we photographers, we revolve endlessly around the same photograph, a kind of perfect image, a Holy Grail that we never reach, and that would be an ideal self-portrait”.
The great American portraitist Richard Avedon also said, “In my portraits, the other is really the mirror of my own state of mind”.
I think that, in fact, every photograph is a more or less successful self-portrait, It’s the same with portraits. the other is a mirror for the photographer.
This little book brings together about sixty portraits, of people, famous or unknown, from Africa, Asia, France, from my village and my family… about sixty very beautiful memories, about sixty people I met, with whom I shared some values and who produced, collectively and without knowing it, a self-portrait!
