The Swiss photographer Zoé Beausire is 25 years old and lives in Berlin. Kominek Books is publishing her first book, Rosette, Mauricette et Roby, and exhibiting her work at the Kominek gallery.
Rosette, Mauricette et Roby was Beausire’s graduation project, produced in 2009-2010 with her grandparents and great aunt.
The work is above all about their daily lives: dressing, thinking, falling asleep, washing, surpassing oneself, making oneself look nice, smoking, taking a walk. We’re not sure what order it’s all in, and that’s okay: it’s nice like that.
It offers a personal vision, delicate and frontal, full of empathy and compassion, of a day in their lives. Deep down, it’s a comment on these ambiguous feelings of respect, love and helplessness that one feels toward the people we grow up with, and grow old with.
Rosette, Mauricette et Roby features silent images speaking of the aging body and soul, signifying the physical evolutions and emotional estrangement.
It’s a beautiful story whose ending we’d rather not hear.
Three other series by Zoé Beausire are being presented to coincide with her first solo exhibition: Huit-clos, a fiction with Rosette and Mauricette echoing similar themes, then A travers champs and Tremblement, works in color and black and white that stray from the documentary form to address more abstract personal issues by exploring other photographic techniques.
