Balthazar Watching
When the pandemic hit we were all worried about which of our favorite restaurants would survive. I was sure that Balthazar would make the cut but it was stressful watching it close and waiting for whatever renaissance would happen afterward.
I took photos during the closure and you can see the painted mural on Balthazar reminding us of what a cheerful and magical place it is.
I took photos when it re-opened with its outdoor café and when the staff was cheering in the bakery shop during a rainy Passover. A lone waitress stands with her mask on awaiting customers: a man in a blanket lounges on a side bench; a mural is painted on the closed building; bakers cheer as they celebrate their re-opening.
And I have been taking photos ever since it closed outside of the passersby & patrons who love the look and tastes of Balthazar in Soho in New York City.
