AULIAK – Matías Martínez : Entegonia

Preview

AULIAK – Matías Martínez sends us his series Entegonia, accompanied by this text.

Entegonia is a black-and-white photographic series built around a simple recurring situation: two figures, their faces hidden, encountering each other across different environments.

They appear together in water, in open landscapes, in transitional or constructed spaces. They approach, withdraw, offer, hold. A rose and a suitcase — these elements circulate between them without ever fully clarifying what is being exchanged.

What unfolds is not a linear narrative, but a sequence of variations around proximity. The figures seem bound to repeat gestures of connection that never completely resolve. Each image suggests a moment of encounter, yet something always remains suspended.

By removing the face, the work shifts attention toward posture, distance, and the fragile tension between bodies. Presence is felt, but identity is withheld.

Each image is physically constructed and captured in camera.

Entegonia moves within that unstable space where intimacy and separation coexist — where contact is approached, deferred, and quietly transformed.

AULIAK is a Barcelona-based fine art photography practice created by Matías Martínez.

Rooted in a long international trajectory as a contemporary choreographer, the work approaches the image as a constructed, embodied situation rather than a captured moment. Each photograph emerges from staging, gesture, and spatial relation.

Through black-and-white compositions in which the face is often withheld, AULIAK explores intimacy, estrangement, and silent forms of connection.
